CEE Steckdose

What is a CEE Socket?

A CEE socket, also known as an industrial socket or heavy-duty power socket, is a robust connector according to the international standard IEC 60309. It ensures safe transmission of high currents in industry, trade, construction sites, or camping areas. Unlike conventional Schuko sockets, the CEE socket handles continuous loads and offers better protection against moisture and mechanical stress. At Ekabel24.de, you will find a wide selection of high-quality CEE sockets in various designs – ideal for professional applications.

Types of CEE Sockets

CEE sockets mainly differ in current rating, number of poles, and protection class. Here are the most important variants:

Current Rating: 16A vs. 32A (and higher)

  • CEE Socket 16A: Suitable for up to 16 amperes and power up to approx. 11 kW (at 400V). Compact (approx. 50 mm diameter), ideal for smaller machines, tools, or camping.
  • CEE Socket 32A: For up to 32 amperes and up to 22 kW. Larger and more robust (approx. 70 mm diameter), perfect for high-power devices like food trucks, construction machinery, or EV charging stations.
  • Higher variants (63A or more) for extreme requirements.

The different sizes prevent mix-ups and increase safety.

  • 3-Pin (2P+E): For single-phase AC (230V), often blue, e.g., for camping or simple applications.
  • 5-Pin (3P+N+E): For three-phase AC (400V), usually red, standard in industry.

Protection Class: IP44 vs. IP67

  • IP44: Splash-proof – sufficient for covered areas or dry environments.
  • IP67: Dust-tight and waterproof – ideal for outdoor use, construction sites, or damp rooms.

Advantages of CEE Sockets

CEE sockets offer numerous advantages over normal Schuko sockets:

  • Higher Load Capacity: Suitable for continuous currents up to 32A or more without overheating.
  • Better Safety: Twist-proof, mechanical coding prevents wrong connections, extended protective conductor contact.
  • Weatherproof: High IP protection against dust and water.
  • Durability: Robust construction for tough use in industry and outdoors.
  • Efficient Power Transmission: Ideal for powerful motors, machines, or fast EV charging.

In short: A CEE socket is the professional choice where reliability and performance matter.

CEE Socket Installation Instructions

Important: The connection of a CEE socket may only be carried out by a qualified electrician – electricity is life-threatening!

Here is a brief overview for 5-pin variants:

  1. Switch off the line and check it is de-energized.
  2. Prepare 5-core cable (e.g., 5G2.5 mm² for 16A).
  3. Mount the socket on the wall (surface or flush mount).
  4. Connections (viewed from the front): Protective conductor (PE, green-yellow) at 6 o'clock position, then L1 (brown), L2 (black), L3 (gray), neutral (N, blue).
  5. Tightly clamp the wires (screw or clamp connections).
  6. Secure strain relief and close the housing.
  7. Protect via circuit breaker (e.g., 3-pole, 16A or 32A) and RCD.

If in doubt, always consult an electrician.

Tips for Selecting and Buying a CEE Socket

Consider the following when choosing:

  • Required power and current rating (16A for standard, 32A for high power).
  • Location (indoor/outdoor → IP44 or IP67).
  • Number of poles matching the application (3-pin or 5-pin).
  • Quality brands like PCE or Mennekes for longevity.
